Busses, Aux Sends, and Returns in Pro Tools - Episode 126

Busses, aux sends, and aux returns are used with your plugins… reverbs, delays, choruses… and more. Here’s me on a track! That’s the direct signal… I’m so dry…. Let’s spice me up with some verb. Create a Stereo Buss – Name it REVERB. Create a stereo Aux track. That’s your reverb return Boom!. Choose the bus input for the return. Put a cool reverb on the insert- make sure it’s stereo for a stereo aux track….. the mix knob of the plugin should be at 100% when using it this way. Choose a cool preset. Now Let’s send some of my voice to the bus by creating a send on my original track. This send gets routed through the aux bus to the aux return track……. And it hits the reverb plugin insert on the way. YES! Raise the fader level on the send until you like the amount of reverb. Maybe you want to automate the send and add more reverb on the choruses. There’s more than one way to do it… I like to automate from my edit window… Instead of viewing the waveform or volume of your track, view the send level.. Now lets change it in a section.. Boom. You just learned how to use your effects with aux sends and returns in less than a minute.
